7th & 8th Grade Math
I want to give God all the glory. I am so blessed to be able to say that I have been married for 31 years, have two adult children and have been a teacher for 15+ years. After earning my degree and Michigan state teaching certification from Hope College in Holland Michigan, I moved to Parker Arizona to begin my teaching career at Parker High School in 1987. I decided to make Arizona my forever home when I met and married a handsome Arizona native in 1989. At that time I also earned an Arizona state teaching certificate, and moved to Buckeye in 1992 where I taught at Buckeye High.
When our second child was born in 1994, I made the choice to stay at home, but continued to teach Sunday school, VBS, women’s Bible study and horseback riding lessons while raising our children. In 2006, while living in Kingman Arizona, my pastor invited me to teach at Emmanuel Christian Academy where I taught all subjects (Bible, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, American & World History, English Language Arts, Science, and Health) to a combined 7th & 8th grade class for eight years.
In 2014 I was happy to once again return to Buckeye where God literally laid the opportunity to teach at Grace Fellowship Academy in my lap (ask me about it and I’ll tell you the story). In 2018 I thought I had “officially” retired due to health issues and turned my focus to women’s ministry. I learned that it is OK to slow down, to take care of yourself, to ask God the tough questions and to really dig deep into the Bible. Then this summer, as we were turning into the church parking lot, the sign advertising for a math teacher caught my eye. Before we were even parked I knew that I was ready to come back to GFA.
In my 2015 parent letter I wrote “You will not find perfect people at this school, but I am certain you will always find people that care.” I still believe that. School may be a fleeting moment in our children’s lives, but we have this brief and golden opportunity to teach them about grace, and in that way God will be glorified.
“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.” Phil 3:12
